The English Patch for DBO

Overview

The English Patch is a tool that may be used to translate the majority of the game's UI (user interface) elements. This is not a complete translation of the game however and, due to how the patch works, it cannot translate the following:

- Skill names and effects
- Item names and item stats
- Monster or NPC names
- Quest text
- Messages sent by other players in a different language
- Anything else that isn't the UI that I may be forgetting

While the above may seem like a lot, most of what's not translated isn't vital to gain a good understanding of how to play the game. For the few things that are (ex: skill and item effects), you can find any necessary information either on this site on in the forums.

	How to use the Patch

After you've downloaded the English Patch, you must then extract the contents of these files and place them into your Dragon Ball Online "pack" folder (including readme.txt). Where this folder is located depends on which version of DBO you're playing: 

For the Taiwanese version: "C:\Program Files\DBO_CT_TW\localize\TAIWAN\pack"
                                                
For the Korean version: "C:\Netmarble\Dragonball Online\pack"

For the Hong Kong version: "C:\Program Files (x86)\DBO_CT_HK\localize\HONGKONG\pack" (for 64-bit operating systems)
or "C:\Program Files\DBO_CT_HK\localize\HONGKONG\pack" (for 32-bit operating systems)

Once you've done that, you'll need to run the "DBOCOM Language Patcher.exe" file (right click on the file and select "Run as Administrator"), and hit the "Patch" button. The patcher will then apply the English UI translations to your game (this process may take a minute or two to complete) and, after it finishes, you can close out of the program.

The next time you run the game you should see that the UI is now in English. If this isn't the case, or you experienced an error along the way, refer to the troubleshooting information below. If the patching process was successful, then the only time you'll ever need to open up the patcher again is when the game updates and overwrites the English translations with the default language.

If for any reason you want to uninstall the patch, you can do so by clicking the highlighted button on the game's launcher: Taiwan & Hong Kong,Korea. Alternatively, if you have problems uninstalling the patch with the game's launcher, you can download the original lang0.pak file (Taiwan,Korea, Hong Kong), extract it, and place it in the folder listed above for the version of DBO you're using.

	Troubleshooting

"Cannot open output file" error:

If you get this error, right click on the "lang0.pak" file in the "pack" folder, and select "Properties". In the properties window, uncheck the "Read Only" checkbox, and hit apply.

Patch says it completed, but the game is still in it's original language:

If this happens to you, check that you installed the patch into the correct folder. Often, Taiwanese users mistakenly place the files into the "\pack" folder and not the "\localize\TAIWAN\pack" folder. If you're sure the files are in the correct folder, make sure you're also running the English Patch in administrator mode.

Game displays a C++ error message on start-up:

This error is uncommon and could have a number of different causes. First, uninstall the patch using the information above. After that, make sure you have the latest version of the patch and check the forums. If the problem is wide-spread, it may mean a recent update to the game broke the patch, and that a new version is needed. If that's the case then you'll just have to do without it until a new version is released. If you appear to be the only one experiencing the problem, make sure your game runs correctly without the patch. If it doesn't, re-install the game.

Alternativly, if you're playing either the Taiwanese or Hong Kong versions of the game, you can use the patcher on the "DBO_CT_TW\pack" or "DBO_CT_HK\pack" folders. After that, you'll need to delete the "lang0.pak" file within in the localize folder listed above.

	Changelog and Old Versions
